Jason Klazmer
Jason has loved history since the fourth grade, when he exhausted his elementary school library’s collection of dinosaur books and stumbled across Charles Flato’s Golden Book of the Civil War.
That early fascination led to broader historical interests, and eventually to an ambition to become a professor of Ancient History. He followed this path through college and seven years of graduate study before leaving during his dissertation as he confronted the realities of a difficult academic job market.
He entered the insurance industry in 2014, where his family has worked for three generations, but he never forgot his passion for history—or for the stories it inspires.
Human Stories Grounded in Real History
Jason believes that the modern discipline of history often struggles to make itself relevant and accessible to a broader audience—to the detriment of both. Through his writing, he aims to help bridge this gap and bring past people—and the times they inhabited—vividly to life for readers who long ago dismissed history as boring or trivial.
Jason holds a BA in History from Vassar College, a post-baccalaureate certificate in Latin and Ancient Greek from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA in Roman History from the University of California, Berkeley.
When he is not writing, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, cooking, playing chess (not well), and, of course, reading historical fiction.
